Q1. What do tribes-people do to handle bears safely?
A1. Tribes-people control the bears by forcing a rope through the very sensitive snouts.
Q2. What are the Kalandar tribes-people encouraged to do after the bears are taken away from them?
A2. After the bears are taken away from them, Kalandar tribes-people are encouraged to start a new life. They are given Rs. 50,000 to start their own businesses, like cold drink stalls etc. This helps them survive once the bears are taken away.
Q3. Do you think very soon all bears will be saved? Give reasons from the text?
A3. Yes, I am sure all bears will soon be saved. Wildlife SOS is rehabilitating them at a fast pace. Out of 1200 dancing bears they have been able to save about 60 bears, i.e 50% in a few years.
Q4. After reading this text, has your attitude to animals changes? How has it changed?
A4. After reading this chapter I have begun to believe that cruelty to animals can be stopped if proper rehabilitation programmes are developed for the tamed animals as well as their masters/owners. This is very important for any solution to be sustainable and effective. The work of Wildlife SOS is very inspirational and motivating for one and all. This has helped me develop this positive attitude.
