Getting Started with Groups

Friends,

Here we shall discuss how to go about building our year long projects….group-wise. Some basic instructions:

1. Each student to be a member of a team/group…comprising 4-6 students
2. Preferably, each group to have a healthy mix of boys and girls
3. Each group to have a name….a catchy name like "Roaring Tigers" etc will be exciting!!
4. Each group to decide on a topic that they want to work upon. You may discus this with me in class
5. Each group will also be going some online math….you need to practice math skills to become good in Physics
6. Each group member will have to take-up specified responsibilities…and these have to be clearly listed right from the start
7. Each group will be developing a Group Wiki Site (GWS). Don't worry kids! I shall be training you on this
8. I will let you know the target submissions with regard to FA1, FA2 etc

…..so lets get cracking, friends!!

FA 1 timeline……Submission date: June 2010 end:

1. All students as members of www.samvedna.in. The Samvedna site will be running the forum discussions while the GWS will be used for project work
2. GWS up and running
3. Side nav bar and top nav bars to be in place
4. Project themes clearly defines;
1. math aerobics
2. theme project
5. Home page of the GWS in place
6. Basic ground work for project work….raw material, online links for reference etc
7. Homepage to showcase the project outline, deliverables, roles & responsibilities etc

Key points to remember

Good, successful school projects have some points in common:

 kept it simple;
 avoided very detailed and technical projects that could not be achieved;
 seemed to get their idea right and tried it out before worrying about money;
 responded to community needs;
 did not try to change the world but focussed on practical local actions;
 did good research to show the need for the project;
 showed and measured the impacts of the project;
 took time;
 did a project that was needed and did not copy from others;
 thought about sustainable development.

Sir you are right with the key points. I just wanted to know my group had chosen the topic of tourism in Delhi due to comman wealth games , so how we will be doing the survey.

Very good topic, Anandita. A good way to get started is to first the official website of Delhi Tourism - http://www.delhitourism.nic.in/index.aspx. This initial browsing will help your team get a feel of the issues involved. I will explore too and be in touch.

Anandita….also, ask your dad to join in the discussion. This would be one good way of getting him involved. To begin with ask him to become a member of Samvedna.

I had made my website but when I tried to visit it through samvedena only it was written that no such site exist. Why so ?

hi anandita..!! try the spelling correct sometimes it happens. keep trying
FOLLOW THESE INFORMATION IF YOU HAVE MADE THE SITE IF NOT DO NOT

anandita to open it there is a way as follow:-

a) open samvedna , and sign in to your account
b) when your name will appear click the sub menu option and click account summary
c) when the page will open see your left side of you screen , there will be a option name sites and membership . click on it and you will see a sub menu of it
d)click my sites and you will see the link of yous site and you can open it

From these identify a few areas that you intend to work upon. let me know….I will guide further.

yes that's why i chose it and we would try and explore more about Delhi…….
living in Delhi we don't know much about it so it would be easy as well as informative to us!!

Yamini….your group could have an underlying theme of "Responsible Citizenship" for Delhi residents. This could imply a host of issues:

• Green Delhi
• Do not litter
• Energy Conservation
• Traffic Discipline
• Wealth from Waste
• Using sports for wellness and fitness….leading to good health
• etc…………

hi yamini its gitanshu of ur class 9c u have chosen very good topic for the project u can collect information by torism sites &u can also collect information about various stadiums where the comman wealth games will be happened & u can also collect information that how many players are coming for games & wherethey will stay in the mean while& etc.

The best I can think of, Prateek is http://nobelprize.org/. It has wonderful resources to get you guys really excited about the works of great Nobel Prize winners. The site also has some science games!!

hi.. tantuja , i want to ask you a question , the site of your group is made by you or not , if not tell these instruction to the maker of your site

IF YES FOLLOW THESE INTRUCTIONS
1) open your site and click on site manager
2) click the members option and you will see a sub menu in which you have to click the list members option
3) then you will see the list
4)when the list come see click the option button (you will find it at the right of the member name)
5) you will see "to moderator" option , click on it

and so on….

Tantuja,

1. They all need to first become members of your site
2. As admin of your site, you can give them 'rights' to edit through the 'site manager'
